A year ago Mt Pleasant School, Heathcote Valley School, Our Lady Star of the Sea School, Linwood College, Sumner School, Redcliffs and Lyttelton School formed a Kāhui Ako. A Kāhui Ako (Community of Learning) is a group of education and training providers working together to help learners achieve their full potential. ... Each Community of Learning sets shared goals or achievement challenges based on the particular needs of its children and young people.
The group was gifted the name Aupaki by mana whenua and has the approval of the local runanga. Aupaki translates to ‘sloping hillside’ and the words Au (wave) and Paki (crashing) resonate with all of the schools in Aupaki.
The purpose of the Kāhui Ako is to create greater learning opportunities for everyone through a community approach. Brendan Wright (Lyttleton Primary School), was employed this year as the Kāhui Ako’s lead Principal.
